Listening to my iPod. Haven't done this in a while. I've been living off of Hall and Oates' greatest hits on my newish netbook for a while. I tell ya...listening to Castledoor after a month or so of abstinence is like discovering sex all over again. Good sex. Not the kind I fake with unworthy partners. HA.

I've gotta load a few new tracks by the Childballads into my iTunes. Don't know if I'm allowed to talk about it, but I've heard the new songs and they are incroyable!!! My compliments to the chef!

I feel like I'm having a heart attack. This is my last week on red meat. I swear.

Had a nice date last night with a super cute musician. We watched the Watchmen and ate lasagna and laughed our asses off. Very cool kid. So I'm all cheerful and stuff this morning. Ugh, I know.

Watching The Rocker right now. I have a funny story about this film. The first time I ever screened it was on the Fox studios lot. About 30 minutes in, a massive earthquake hit L.A. I turned around and a woman mouthed to me, "Is this an earthquake?" I said, "Yeah." We all calmly exited the screening room and went outside, where I proceeded to hyperventilate. The woman and her male companion brought me a cup of water and tried to calm me down.

The woman was Illeana Douglas. Could you die?!?!?! Love that bitch...

Time for the Grind

Well, this weekend was...colorful. I saw (500) Days of Summer and was NOT blown away. I know that everybody and their dog thinks that is a great movie. It was stylish (both fashion-wise AND filmmaking-wise), but no substance whatsoever. I didn't buy that love story between Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt one bit.Very disappointing.

We've got a lot of changes coming up at Allegory Weekly. Some good stuff is about to go down this week that will carry over into other issues. We have a new 'contact us' page up for anybody who wants to talk shop or get featured in the mag. I decided to hold off on posting anything because it's all gotta come back down in a couple of days, anyhow. So for now, enjoy the same old stuff that you may or may not have read in the first place.

I'd Make the WORST Parent

...and I'll tell you why: because I'm the queen of making promises I have no intention of keeping. Never posted any of the content that was written this week. And since others can no longer be trusted to post anything (DAVY!), it's my party and I'll cry if I want to.

So, last night, I went to a screening of Inglorious Basterds (the new soon-to-be released Tarantino) with my friend. She gets to see all the best stuff. It was so funny. We laughed real hard. Maybe I'll cover it for you guys.

I'm on the clock and trying to look busy, although it's hard. I don't feel well and have lots of stress from all the obligations I have. We also have a ton of junk that has to get done this weekend on the site.

The only thing to do when times get tough is to listen to Yoko Ono. She is a sage.

I'm listening to "They Hunt Us We Run" by the Childballads. This song really sticks to your ribs. When you listen to the vocals on the track in a certain frame of mind, it will fuck you up and leave you frozen.

I've got some good plans this week. Going to the movies with a friend Thursday. This same guy and I went out together this past Friday. As we were turning onto Sunset, headed for the Short Stop, we got stopped at the traffic light right in front of the Vista theater. Everyone was coming out of Funny People--which is excellent, by the by...

In the cluster of pedestrians crossing the street, who should pass in front of my car than Gabe, Nate and Liska from Castledoor. I got so excited. They always look so chic and elegant when they go out. I rolled out the window and started yelling, "Castledoor!!!!!" at them like a complete retard. Of course, they ignored me. I think they're willing to put up with my obnoxious shit at their shows but Sunset Blvd. is a different story. Needless to say, my friend told me I was a total dork. Don't you love it when your homies put you in your place?

I officially hate my CMS (content management system). Why is it that every time I try to do anything online, I can't? Not necessarily hating on our Web host because there are some serious cache issues with PCs that are nobody's fault other than Bill Gates. But it is a royal pain in the ass to not be able to see the work that you've done even AFTER you've deleted your Web history, like, a thousand times.

Ugh...

Anyway, our Allegory Story is on Moshe Kasher. I have a crush on this dude a mile long. Sure, he's cute, but he's soooooo effing funny. And his humor is smart and bitchy. Me likey.

Our music feature is on the Postmarks. Had lots of trouble loading this piece so sorry if it's a total mess.

Art and Style is an original feature. It's pretty funny. The list hasn't been posted yet, so don't trip on that one. It's supposed to be a double feature. I'll either put it up tonight or tomorrow.

The day is winding to a close--well, the work day, at least. It's been an annoying week of bullshit and weird wannabe publicists--don't ask.

I did a great interview this afternoon with a fantastic musician whose band will be featured in the music section this weekend. From one of her photos, I thought she looked like Megan Fox a bit, but I think it's just this pesky discount LASIK once again. Boooooo!

Also, to pay homage to the X Games, we've got a special double-edition of The List coming up. NOT to be missed.

Anyway, the latest issue of Allegory Weekly is live. It was a long weekend. Went out of town. Slept in a nice Comfort Inn. Waited in lots of lines. Took MANY cat-naps. Had an agoraphobic bitch-fest. Sigh...I love Comic-Con.

But I digress...

The issue is up and it rocks. I know I say that each week, but this week is really cool. I love the List. It's one of my all-time favorites because it's soooooo random and funny.

The Allegory Story is on Ellen Clifford--a cool actress with a bright future ahead of her.

Check out the music feature on Bird Names. This one really kicks butt. I'm in love with this band. If you like lo-fi noise pop, you'll love this group. AND they're really funny dudes, too.

Art & Style is also spectacular. We profile this genius interior designer named Hilary White. The pics are outstanding. I think she's spectacular.

Kudos to my negro, Drew Barrymore, for having directed a fine first feature film. I screened Whip It last night with another writer friend of mine. Wow!

I hated the opening title sequence. I mean, don't get it twisted--I love the fact that she dropped Kings of Leon's "Knocked Up" in there. But the titles were a little too Hal Hartley for me. However, the rest of the film was outstanding. It was funny and touching and so effing cool! OMG! Good for her. I was super impressed.

I'm thinking about getting away for another weekend vaycay. I have a lot of annoying things (and by things I usually mean "people") I'm dealing with lately. I'd love to have a laser gun that melts people's faces off at will. Hmm... somebody should mock that up along with the widget I requested a little while back. I still expect my cut, though. These ideas aren't for free, folks.

Listening to the Specials right now. "Do Nothing." I dig this song. Some of their stuff annoys me, but this is a good song--in the "woe is me; life is putrid, let me have an emo freak-out" sort of way.

Also, will have to wait around the house for the delivery of my new computer, as my Mac has crashed. This is the second one of those bad boys I've owned that overheated on me. My first was an iBook; this time, it's my Mac mini. Ugh, I hate to say this out loud, but I'm switching over to a PC. They're sooooooooooooooooo lame, I know. But until Steves Job and Wozniak can build something that won't break down on me after a couple of years, they can kiss me on the fat part of my ass.

Sorry guys for the icky mistake. Many of you are probably too drunk or stoned to notice, and hey, I'm with ya. Everyone says I should let it go, but I'm far too self-depricating to do that. We're all alums of some pretty nice news organizations, so we'll try to do better next time What's left of us, at least. We're down to three people, so I guess we're doing something right. This publication was started to help give some good friends something to do while looking for work in this awful economy and it's actually helped get them hired so I'm thrilled about that.

I'm heading over to Barack's house for a weekend getaway--LOL! I soooooooooooo wanted to write that. Actually, I'll be in the nation's capital; I'm all packed up and ready to go.

I super hate flying, but I LOVE getting out of town, dude.

So, it's the morning after all the craziness with Michael and Farrah. Two of the most [pop] culturally significant people on this earth dead on the same day. Creepy. It's always really sad when people are trying to get their shit together and time runs out for them before they get the chance. I think that's what bums me out most about death. It always seems to come for you when you're not ready. People should be allowed to finish up their plans before kicking the bucket.

I watched Corey Feldman talking about Jackson on the Today Show this morning. He seemed so sad. I wonder how Macaulay Culkin's holding up. Apparently he and MJ were still pretty friendly. I should ask around...

Anyway, wish me bon voyage. Depending on how this trip goes, Allegory Weekly may go into reruns for this upcoming week. Sorry about that! Be warned...

Wow...we're all gettin' older people. Never thought he'd be 50 when he died. I was sure he'd be well into his 80s or 90s.

Well, sad but true, he's the third death in 2 days. Guess that old adage is true, huh?

Monday night was the Castledoor show at Spaceland. I went with my friend Marya. We caught Local Natives' set and then stood breathless with anticipation for Nate, Coury, Gabe, Brando, Liska and Joel to take the stage. And they didn't disappoint.

IT WAS THE BEST SHOW OF THEIR RESIDENCY!

Good gravy. I love this band so much I can't see straight.

Yesterday was pretty much a fond remembrance of that night. I had a permanent, goofy smile on my face all day.

Yo! It's About That Time!

This week's Allegory Weekly is live, bitches!

(Sorry for calling you "bitches." I just think the word sometimes gives declarations a nice sense of occasion).

Had an eventful weekend. I worked out a lot. I'm whittling away. All my fat is dropping like a new release on a Tuesday. HA!

Anyway, in Allegory this week is a great feature on Adrian Zaw. This guy will one day be studied in media and journalism classes. He's a real trailblazer and a total sweetheart. I've hung out with him before and had to really refrain from molesting him. He's so adorable.

Our film feature is on a great documentary called Under Our Skin. Trust me: this is a movie that you'll want to see. It's so outstanding and amazing and thought-provoking. It made me angry to think that people just like you and me are discriminated against because of our medical diagnoses.

The music feature is on Castledoor. This band is my latest obsession. I could listen to their song, "Hidden Treasure" all day. As a matter of fact, every time I do, I burst into tears. It's such a good song! And the band live is one of the best I've seen in a pretty long while.

We've got a fashion piece on Lola's Rags. Next payday, I'm gonna try to hook up some folks with pieces from this collection. VERY sexy. Unlike anything else going on right now.

Divorce is a bitch, people! I'm going through a messy one with a sleazeball who I now think only married me for money, despite the fact that I didn't have a pot to piss in when we got hitched. Or a greencard. Who knows? The point is this, I just spent the better portion of my morning stuck in a smelly courthouse where fugly, skanky people in sweatsuits stood WAY too close to me for my own personal comfort, whilst their unkempt children ran around like little maniacs.

I am NEVER getting married again.

Went clubbing last night with a friend of mine. It was a crazy experience. First, let me just say that Bardot--the hot new spot in Hollywood is soooooooo effing rad. My only beef is with the DJ. Are you really trying to get me to dance to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight?" I felt like a 12-year-old at my BFF's birthday party.

That said, it was a great night. Loads of fun. I danced my ASS off. My friend got propositioned for a threesome, but I don't think she realizes that was what was happening.

So, Friday was the Passion Pit show at the Echoplex. God it was AMAZING!!!!! I danced. I sang. I met this cool chick named Marya who was getting flirted with by not one, but two members of Harlem Shakes simultaneously from the stage. Lexy was hawking her good and so was Kendrick. SWEET! She got invited to the after-party which I could've gone to, but I was there with a date (who didn't even put out btw--so I was kind of regretting not going).

The following day, she and I met up and drove to Pomona to say goodbye to the fellas before they head off on their respective tour dates. The guys were great. One of the better experiences I've had in a really long time!!!

The latest issue of Allegory Weekly is out! Get it while it's hot. The Allegory Story is on our very own Alex Everett. This kid is a real inspiration. He's nice and might I add, a handsome devil.

I've been up since a little past 1 a.m. I've decided to try a new sleep pattern to stave off my massive yawn fest whilst in the office each day. So far, I'm just incredibly nauseous and cranky. And I fell asleep with the a.c. on so on top of everything else, I'm cold.

Watching Rocket Science. I did the junket for this film a couple of years back. It was loads of fun. They gave away good swag. Anyway, I keep thinking about this movie The Girlfriend Experience that happens to be our film feature this week. I'd love to see it again. It's actually available on OnDemand this month. I downloaded Passion Pit's Manners today. It's really good. I listened to it while working out. I'm supposed to be writing some articles for another outlet that I freelance for, but I'm so over it. All I want to do is sleep and think about going to shows and stuff.

So, yesterday was the Soderbergh interview. Did I blog about this already? I can't remember, so sorry if I'm repeat-offending.

Can I just say what an effing genius this guy is. And CUTE!!! Mama loves her a Southern Jewish guy. Did I mention he's a Capricorn? Sigh...

I also was very pleased to be in the same room as adult film actress Sasha Grey who stars in Soderbergh's latest feature, The Girlfriend Experience. She smiled at me. I kinda melted.

Someone's got a girl crush...

Anyway, this movie is really good. But be forewarned: although the lead character is a Manhattan call girl and the woman playing her is a porn star, there aint NO sex in that bitch, so leave your lotion and hankies at home. But go see the film anyway. It's really beautiful.

This weekend, I'm ordering another deck of tarot cards because I destroyed the last ones while unemployed. They were giving me too much bad news--lol!

I have some mail to pick up. A bunch of interviews to do. Gearing up for the big Steven Soderbergh interview--YAY!

Also, there's some very interesting Allegory Weekly promotional stuff getting ready to happen soon. So there's that to look forward to as well. But it's all on the D.L. for now.

Maybe I'll go see the new Star Trek flick. It looks a little strange, but I've chatted with a few of the stars and Simon Pegg was super stoked about it so who knows...

I'm so freaked out right now. I just watched an episode of "Dress My Nest." On it was my former hot shrink's hot twin brother, Dan. OMF!

And the crazy thing about it is that I think Dan is the nicer of the two. He had much sweeter mannerisms than hot shrink did. Hot shrink was way hotter, but kind of a prick, comparatively.

Last night was the Head Like a Kite show at Spaceland. Some good friends showed up to support Dave Einmo who was the music feature for last week. Archives coming soon in case you missed it.

Anyway, HLAK packed the place. It was a damn good performance. You won't find a better live band or a more inventive show than when Head Like a Kite comes to town. So thanks to all the tragically hip kids for coming out and supporting the Pacific Northwest.

My stomach is growling like a bear. No more midnight stops to Mickey D's after shows. That's an order!

One movie that DOES look cool as hell is the new Transformers flick. I saw the trailer this weekend while at X-Men Origins: Wolverine. There's one shot where if you look fast enough, you can kind of see Megan Fox's gynecology.

Today was a good day

I got up early this morning and headed over to West Hollywood to pick up our mail. Ooh, fun. Then, headed over to the Grove and checked out X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It kicked soooo much ass. I was super looking forward to seeing Ryan Reynolds as Dead Pool, because when I interviewed him for Adventureland, he was really stoked about it.

Ryan's a great interview. Then it dawned on me, I've also interviewed Liev Schreiber and Hugh Jackman. So this movie was especially cool for me.

From there, I ran some other errands and came home. I'm getting ready to post the next issue. But I'm kinda tired at this point. I ordered some tasty Chinese food (hot and sour soup, BBQ pork slices and a chocolate mousse cake).

Man, do I need a nap.

The Aftermath

So the thievery corporation as we're now calling them over here has refused to publish ANYONE's comments surrounding their blatant plagiarism of our piece. Not only that, but a few other people have reported back to Honey, via her link that they read both and think she was stolen from.

I've been asked to not spend too much more time on this, but I've been writing for years and editing for practically just as long and bloggers need to learn that just because there's no regulation on the World Wide Web doesn't mean you can take people's work and pass it off as your own. You can still be sued AND fined. You can still get fired if yours is a paying gig. You can lose credibility. I haven't seen a lie as blatant as their defense in this matter since the whole "Weapons of Mass Destruction" debacle, and we all know how that ended for that guy...

Today is an interesting day. Everyone is filing their pieces. I did some photo edits earlier. Just listenend to a mix tape that a friend made me with some pretty good Beck remixes on it.

I took a meeting not too long ago and now have the rest of my afternoon to sit back, chill and enjoy this first day of May.

So, I was perusing the 'net, as I often do in this hour. And I found something very disturbing. It seems that some little joiner is going around as "The Reluctant Hipster" and poaching content from our very own Honey M. Barc.

Interesting.

I found a nearly identical article from another reluctant hipster (which I'm refusing to post because thieves don't deserve page views) that was published just a couple of weeks ago on a blog that nearly line-for-line rips off the article that we published last week. Which was written and published to a syndication site months ago by Honey herself (oh, and did I mention Honey's is time stamped from FEBRUARY?)

This isn't cool people. We're not in the kind of economy where you can afford to lose your job by ripping off other people. I've posted a nice little message on this person's sites in the hopes that his or her boss will give them the boot, but good.

Honey, you're the greatest, girl. Getting ripped off by no-talent hacks just proves it to us!

Working on my fitness

Well, it's not even lunch time and already I've eaten a delish Chinese chicken salad from Trader Joe's and a huge handful of orange-flavored cranberries. So tasty. Still, I feel like yacking...

Maybe that's a story idea for next week: how to avoid the pre-lunch pig-out.

I woke up crazy early this morning and started watching the news, which is something I rarely do since leaving my post at ABC. Let's just call it, "post-traumatic stress disorder" and leave it at that. However, I saw that there's an epidemic of swine flu going around. People are cancelling vaycays to Mexico AND the U.S. Dude, that's so gross. Let's all be careful to cover our mouths when we cough, give people plenty of personal space when they talk, and wipe down our desks and keyboards at the office. Germs are super creepy.

In other news, Bea Arthur, star of "The Golden Girls" passed away this weekend. I think she was 86. Bea was sooooo rad. She was one of the funniest ladies on television. I loved her as Dorothy on GG, but she rocked my socks off on "Maude." I once wrote a song called "The Ballad of Bea Arthur" and sang it for my friend Julie when we were all kids working at Urban Outfitters on Melrose. Sigh... You'll be missed, Bea.

Well, I've just emailed all of the folks featured in this issue of Allegory. Drennon Davis, who is the Allegory story for this week is someone I met while doing Improv at the Westside Eclectic in Santa Monica. He's a cool guy and dare I say a raging hot piece of ass. He's also an amazing comedian. Check him out if you can.

Same with Dave Einmo from Head Like a Kite. He's a fantastic musician and such a nice guy. I implore anyone out there to check this band out when they come to your town.

But probably one of the things I love the most about this issue is greenKarat. I love what this company stands for and I think the stuff they make and sell is awesome.
